Anti-CAA protest: CBDT extends advance tax payment deadline for northeastern states to Dec 31

The CBDT on Sunday extended till December 31 the deadline for making advance tax payments for the northeastern states in view of the protests against the amended Citizenship Act. Earlier, the deadline was Sunday, December 15. Advance tax payments, under the direct taxes category, are made four times in a financial year.

FM Sitharaman to hold pre-Budget consultations with stakeholders from Monday

Beginning Monday, Union Finance Minister Sitharaman will start holding consultations with various stakeholders, including farmer's organisation, economists, civil society as well as the industry body for reviving the economy during a customary pre-budget consultative process.

FM Sitharam is most likely to present her second budget for the Modi government in February 2020.

Dharmendra Pradhan asks students to focus on entrepreneurship

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan asked engineering students on Sunday to move away from the "traditional notions of success" and focus on entrepreneurship, saying no country can grow without the support of innovation. Promoting entrepreneurship is a key objective of the BJP government at the Centre, he said during an interaction with students during the 72nd Annual Session of Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers at IIT-Delhi.

PNB under-reported bad loans by Rs 2,617 crore in FY19: RBI

Public sector lender Punjab National Bank (PNB) under-reported its non-performing assets by Rs 2,617 crore for the fiscal year 2018-19, as per RBI's risk-assessment report. In a regulatory filing on Saturday, PNB said the divergence in gross non-performing assets (NPAs) assessed by the central bank stood at Rs 2,617 crore in FY19.

ISRO earned Rs 1,245 crore by launching foreign satellites in 5 years

Indian Space Research Organisation, apart from making India proud with its space missions, is also earning a lot of money for the government. In response to a question raised in Rajya Sabha, Jitendra Singh, Minister for Atomic Energy and Space, presented the data, which says that ISRO has earned over Rs 1,245 crore by launching satellites from 26 different nations in the last five years. Additionally, the space agency helped collect Rs 91.63 crore in India's foreign exchange earnings in FY 2018-19.

Citizenship Act protest: Buses set on fire in south Delhi

Protests against the amended Citizenship Act turned violent in the national capital Delhi on Sunday. Agitators clashed with police and set 2 DTC buses and a fire truck ablaze in Delhi's Jamia Nagar. Due to the reported violence and arson, a cop and two fire personnel were injured, cops said. A Jamia Millia Islamia students' group said "local elements" joined the protest and "disrupted" it and they had nothing to do with the violence and arson.
