Two deadly plane crashes killing 346 people in the space of five months, both involving Boeing 737 Max 8 jets, has compelled several countries across the globe to play safe and ground these aircraft. On Sunday, an aircraft of this model operated by Ethiopian Airlines crashed in Addis Ababa killing all 157 passengers and crew on board, including four Indians. China yesterday ordered domestic carriers to ground nearly 100 Boeing 737 MAX 8s. Monday also saw Indonesia, Mongolia and Ethiopia temporarily ground all Boeing 737 MAX 8s while South Korea joined the list yesterday. Singapore and now UK too have joined these nations

Retail inflation at 4-month high of 2.57% in Feb, industrial growth rises 1.7% in January

Retail inflation rose to a four-month high of 2.57 per cent during February, government data showed. The rise in inflation level happened mainly due to higher food prices. The retail inflation stood at 1.97 per cent in January and 4.44 per cent in February 2018, a statement by the government said.

Hospitality startup OYO said Tuesday that it will invest Rs 1,400 crore ($ 200 million) in its India and South Asia businesses over 2019 as a part of efforts to increase infrastructure, strengthen technology and internal capability. Google is celebrating the 30th anniversary of World Wide Web by dedicating a doodle commemorating one of the biggest revolution in the technology world.  On 12 March 1989, physicist Tim Berners-Lee submitted a proposal for information management system to help his colleagues while employed at CERN, in Switzerland. Sir Tim Berners-Lee celebrated the birth anniversary of Web by expressing joy and said that he hopes the Web has developed. "How far we've come, but also an opportunity to reflect on how far we have yet to go," wrote Sir Berners-Lee in his letter.

Naresh Goyal seeks funding of Rs 750 crore from Etihad for Jet; says no funds will ground airline

Jet Airways chairman has sought an urgent funding of Rs 750 crore from its equity partner Etihad. He said that the airline is in a "very precarious" position, which has only worsened following the grounding of 50 of its planes. Goyal also wrote that if interim funding is not received at the earliest it will be severely "deleterious" to the future of the carrier and could even result in its "grounding".

Pilots must have 1,000 hours of experience to fly Boeing 737 MAX; DGCA issues stricter rules

Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Monday issued strict safety guidelines for flying the Boeing 737 MAX 8 planes. Among other things, the regulator said that pilots flying these planes must have at least 1,000 hours of flying experience. "The minimum experience level of crew operating B737 Max aircraft to fly as PIC (Pilot-in-Command) is 1,000 hours and co-pilot is 500 hours on Boeing 737 NG aircraft type," the regulator said. This instruction has come days after an aircraft crash killed 157 people in Ethiopia.

DPIIT extends deadline for public comments on draft e-commerce policy

Deadline for public comments on draft national e-commerce policy has been extended till March 29, according to Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT). The draft seeks to provide a policy framework that will enable the country to benefit from rapid digitisation of the domestic, as well as global economy.
