SBI drops IPO plans for general insurance arm; SBI Card listing likely in Q4

State Bank of India (SBI), the country's largest lender, has scrapped its plan to list its general insurance arm on domestic bourses as there is no need for additional capital now, chairman Rajnish Kumar has reportedly said. Earlier, the public sector lender was looking for an initial public offering (IPO) for SBI General Insurance in FY20. A joint venture between SBI and Insurance Australia Group, SBI General Insurance was recently valued at over Rs 12,000 crore.

Air India posts net loss of Rs 8,400 crore in 2018-19, aims to turn operationally profitable in FY20

Cash-strapped Air India has reportedly posted a net loss of about Rs 8,400 crore in the financial year 2018-19, dented by higher operating cost and foreign exchange losses. The total revenues stood around Rs 26,400 crore during the year under review, senior officials told news agency PTI. The officials, however, expect that the debt-laden carrier to turn operationally profitable in 2019-20.

Facebook moots 'prospective' solution on WhatsApp issue; India stands firm on traceability

Facebook global executive Nick Clegg has proposed a "prospective" mechanism for WhatsApp to act on cases flagged by law enforcement agencies, but the government has refused to budge on its demand for traceability of messages. The issue of traceability has been a flashpoint between the government and WhatsApp, and the Facebook-owned messaging platform has so far resisted India's demand for identification of message originators, arguing that doing so would undermine its policy on privacy and end-to-end encryption.
