
IndiGo is working to stay ahead of its competition, not just when it comes to fare discounts and facilities offered to fliers, but also in the pay package it gives out to its staff. According to a report by The Economic Times, the no-frills airline has raised the salaries of its pilots by 8 per cent and that of its cabin crew by 16 per cent.
After the hike, IndiGo's first officer will be earning Rs 2.61 lakh for flying 50 hours. He can earn Rs 3.3 lakh if he logs in 90 hours of flying time. For a senior officer, the salary will be Rs 3.75 lakh a month for 70 hours, going up to Rs 4.3 lakh for 90 hours. An IndiGo captain will now earn Rs 6.01 lakh every month for 70 hours of flying and over Rs 7 lakh for 90 hours.
For cabin crew attendant, the salary has been increased to Rs 31,000 every month while a senior cabin attendant will earn Rs 40,000. A lead cabin attendant's salary has been raised to Rs 60,000 while that of the check crew will earn Rs 90,000 for 40 hours of flying time. If the cabin crew logs in 90 hours of flying time, they will be entitled to a bonus ranging between Rs 45,000 and Rs 1 lakh.
IndiGo, which recently filed papers for an initial public offering, has a 97-strong fleet and 1,448 pilots on its rolls.
According to the report, IndiGo has also given out bonus to its staff for the fifth consecutive year in a row. The carrier is said to have given bonus to its staff in seven of the eight years of its existence.
Earlier in May, SpiceJet had increased the salaries of its pilots who fly its Boeing 737 and Bombardier Q400 planes by 10 per cent and 20 per cent, respectively. GoAir too has promised an early hike in staff salaries.
