A special Delhi court on Tuesday granted bail to former telecom minister A. Raja, a prime accused in the 2G spectrum allocation scam case.

Raja was arrested on February 2, 2011, and was lodged in Tihar Central Jail for over 15 months even as all the other accused have been freed on bail. The DMK leader had moved his first bail application on May 9 within hours of the Supreme Court granting bail to former telecom secretary Siddharth Behura .

Special CBI judge O.P. Saini had on Friday reserved its order on Raja's bail plea after arguments from the DMK MP's counsel and the Central Bureau of Investigation.

He was granted bail on Rs 30 lakh personal bond and two separate sureties. The court, however, restricted his visit to home state Tamil Nadu without its permission.

Raja had sought bail on grounds of parity with his co-accused. CBI, however, acted tough and strongly opposed the bail, saying charges against him were very serious and he might influence trial if released.

The CBI also said that during probe new evidence emerged that showed Raja and others received bribe of another Rs 200 crore in connection with the 2G scam.
