Aakash tablet: The wait lengthens

The Aakash tablet has seen an overwhelming response in the Indian market. Its manufacturer, DataWind Ltd, said that it is drawing about 1 lakh booking per day and till now total bookings have exceeded 2 million. Aakash manufacturer DataWind says the inventory for Aakash (UbiSlate7) has been sold out and it is not accepting any further bookings for now. The inventory for UbiSlate 7+ (Upgraded Aakash) has been sold out for January and February. The March inventory is now available for booking.

The UbiSlate7+ is an Android 2.3 touch screen tablet that has a HD video co-processor for a high-quality multimedia experience and core graphics accelerator for faster application support.  The device includes WiFi connectivity and support for optional 3G modems.  Two full-sized USB ports are integrated into the unit allowing pen-drives, external keyboards, web-cams, dongles and other inexpensive peripherals to be attached.
