Air India's soaring losses
Air India and Indian Airlines announce a loss of about Rs 541 crore and Rs 230 crore, respectively, in 2006/07.

1. March 2007: Air India and Indian Airlines announce a loss of about Rs 541 crore and Rs 230 crore, respectively, in 2006/07.
2. March 2008: Air India and Indian Airlines are merged to create the National Aviation Co. of India Ltd, or Nacil. It posts a loss of Rs 2,226 crore in 2007/08.
3. July 2009 Air India's accumulated losses are officially pegged at Rs 7,200 crore with an estimated Rs 5,000 crore loss in 2008/09 alone.
4. February 2010 Air India's debt balloons to Rs 15,241 crore. And, its estimated losses for 2009/10 are pegged at Rs 5,400 crore.
5. May 2011 The government proposes to infuse Rs 1,200 crore in Air India in 2011/12, which will take its equity base to Rs 3,345 crore.
