Ajit Singh warns Kingfisher over safety norms

Ajit Singh warns Kingfisher over safety norms

Union Aviation Minister Ajit Singh on Monday issued a stern warning to Kingfisher Airlines threatening to shut it down if the troubled carrier fails to procure the necessary airworthiness certificate.

Union Aviation Minister Ajit Singh on Monday issued a stern warning to Kingfisher Airlines threatening to shut it down if the troubled carrier fails to procure the necessary airworthiness certificate.

Already suffering because of its engineers' strike and off and on unrest among pilots and crew members over their unpaid salaries, the cash-strapped airline now faces an imminent closure.

The aviation minister said that earlier it was merely a case of employees' unrest, but now it has degenerated into a safety scare.

Singh said that if there was any safety issue with Kingfisher, the government would shut it down. He said that if there was no airworthiness certificate from engineers for its planes, it would not be allowed to operate.

He said Kingfisher management has been called in by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to discuss the issue.

Meanwhile, a second round of talks between the Kingfisher management and the striking engineers failed to make any headway.
