Apple shared an invite with the international media for the October 22 press announcement. "We still have a lot to cover," it said.
As always, announcements are kept under the cover but speculation has started already.
Apple has upgraded its iPhone lineup along with the Mac this year. So what's left in the kitty? Here's what the tech fraternity is saying about today's event.
iPad: Several popular blogs including allthingsd have reported that today's event will be around the next generation of the iPad tablet. Leaked images indicate that the iPad will have the same 9.7 inch Retina display but is likely to be slimmer. It will also have the new A7 64 bit processor and the Touch ID (finger print scanner).
iPad Mini 2: Apple's iPad mini is also due for an upgrade and will be boosting a Retina display, says independent.co.uk. Just like the Apple iPad, even this one might feature a 64-bit bandwagon with an updated A6 processor. It might even be available in the famous gold and space grey colours.
Updated MacBook Pro and Mac Mini: It's time for Apple to install Intel's latest Haswell chips in the new MacBook Pro, along with Retina display, according to The Verge. The non-Retina MacBooks will only have a new processor that will enhance performance. Apple might also update the Mac Mini with the Haswell chip.
iPod: In the past, Apple always refreshed its iPod lineup before the holiday season. There hasn't a leak or a rumour about the new iPod Touch and the iPod nano. Still.
No Apple TV, Smartwatch: Engadget believes that one should not expect an update here because the existing model already supports 1080p video and numerous third-party services. And in fact, there is nothing left to upgrade, except for the remote. The same applies to the smartwatch. The company gets into a feature/gadget only when they believe it is ready, even if it means stepping late into the game.
