Apple is gearing up for the launch of a mini version of
iPad, reports said citing sources at familiar with the matter.
Reports said that the smaller version of the iPad would have screen size of less than eight inches. iPad's screen size has remained unchanged at 9.7 inches since the first model was launched in 2010.
Apple's component suppliers are gearing up for mass production of the mini iPad in September, reports said, citing the persons.
Though Apple iPad dominates the tablet market, a smaller tablet could help the iPhone-maker to maintain its lead in the market which is getting crowded.
Recently Google announced the launch of
Nexus 7, a tablet with 7-inch screen, which will sell for $199, matching the price of Amazon's Kindle Fire, which also has a seven-inch screen.
Microsoft's Surface tablet , which is expected to hit the shelves this fall, has a 10.6-inch display.
