Apple's iPhone 5 and iPad mini are likely to be unveiled at an event on September 12, website iMore reported on Monday, quoting sources. The report said that iPhone 5 may be released after nine days on September 21 but the release date for iPad mini is yet to be finalised.
AllThingsD in a report said that Apple is planning a special event for September 12.
The iMore report said that the iPad mini would have the same configurations like the 9.7-inch iPad but with a reduced screen size of 7 inches.
There is also speculation that iPhone 5 could have a slightly larger screen. The iPhone 5 is also expected to be able to use the faster new wireless data networks operated.
In its April to June 2012 quarterly earnings report, Apple said iPhone sales were up 28 per cent from a year ago, but down from the previous quarter, possibly due to anticipation that the iPhone 4 could be launched this year.
Reuters in a recent report said that the new
iPhone 5's dock connector port will be smaller, citing sources familiar with the matter. The iPhone's current 30-pin port is expected to come down to a 19-pin connector. This could make room on the bottom of iPhone 5 for more connectors.
Earlier, The Wall Street Journal reported that iPhone 5 will have a
slimmer screen than the current 4S model, citing people familiar with the matter. A slimmer screen, made possible by the use of in-cell technology, could help in reducing the weight of iPhone 5, besides enabling Apple to make extra room available for other components.
