Since the day Apple announced the new iPad, everyone has wondered whether the new Retina display on the tablet was a good enough reason to bring it home. Having been highly appreciative of the iPad 2 , we too wondered whether the new iPad and its display were all they were cut out to be. We were able to get the device for our use after it was launched in India on April 27, 2012, and as soon as we brought the tablet to life, we realized they had been right all the while.

The high resolution Retina display on the new iPad is superb. With four times more pixels as on the iPad 2, the difference in images and videos is emphatic. Even the text appears crisp and sharp. While playing games and videos, we felt a noticeable enhancement in the sound output as well.

The new iPad also boasts a 5 MP iSight camera along with 1080p HD video capture. Apple has also incorporated 4G in the new iPad. Although, we don't have access to 4G network yet in India, our 3G connection worked flawlessly on the new iPad. And the latest iPad allows us to become magicians, dictating stuff on the onscreen keyboard instead of typing it out. Now how it performs overall will have to wait for the full review in Gadgets & Gizmos.

Apple hasn't played much with the dimensions and that's why the new iPad looks like the twin of the iPad 2. While the height and width remain the same, the depth has slightly increased. Also, it is slightly heavier.

The new iPad goes on sale in India from April 27. It is available in 16GB, 32 GB and 64GB storage capacities in two variants -Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi + 4G. The base model (16 GB, Wi-Fi only) is priced at Rs 30,500 (including taxes).
