'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag', the biopic inspired by the life of former athlete and Olympian Milkha Singh, has had a very good first week, with its box office
collections topping Rs 51 crore.
It is likely to continue the good run as the new releases this week - 'D-Day' and 'Ramaiya Vastavaiya' - are unlikely to pose a stiff fight.
The movie, starring Farhan Akhtar and Sonam Kapoor, held strong in most circuits during the weekdays. East Punjab emerged as the circle with outstanding performance, followed by Delhi-UP and then Mumbai.
Single screen theatres, however, witnessed a lukewarm response to the movie.
The movie, directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra of 'Rang De Basanti' and 'Delhi 6' fame, has had the third-best first week figures in 2013 so far,
after 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani' and 'Race 2'.
According to
Boxofficeindia.com analysts, the movie is likely to emerge as the third top grossing film of the year since there aren't any big-ticket releases lined up in the near future.
If the movie holds strong till Shah Rukh Khan-starrer 'Chennai Express' releases later this year, 'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag' could replace 'Race 2' from the second spot, they said.
