BlackBerry 9220 can help RIM gain brownie points
The successor to the hugely popular Curve 8520, the
BlackBerry Curve 9220 has enough muscles to gain the company some
smartphone brownie points.

OUTER SHELL
The Curve 9220 has got the signature BlackBerry look - branding on top, a 2.4-inch display above a five-key row and a well spaced QWERTY keyboard. The 9220 is slimmer at 12.7mm against the 13.9mm on the Curve 8520. The music controls on top panel have been replaced by a 3.5mm jack and lock key.
BATTERY POWER
While most smartphones hardly last a day, the Curve 9220 has a big 1450 mAh battery that easily lasts close to two days with average use. The absence of touch and 3G helps the battery retain its juice.
BBM LOVE
Only BlackBerry Messenger users can tell you how much they are addicted to the messenger and how apps like Whatsapp can't replace BBM. Making the BBM experience even better, RIM has added a dedicated BBM key to the left panel. BBM is now linked to social networking sites with Facebook and Twitter updates showing on the BBM Status too.
INNER STRENGTH
While there are a few minor changes to hardware, the 9220 is a completely different device from inside. It is the cheapest phone to run the latest BlackBerry 7.1 operating system. There is a drop down notification bar at the top that shows pending notifications like missed calls, messages, emails, social networking updates, etc. The main menu is again divided into favourites, frequent, downloads and media. Facebook and Twitter are preloaded on the phone along with secure email and web browsing support. RIM hasn't disclosed the processor onboard, but it definitely is faster than the 8520.
BAG IT OR JUNK IT? A worthy successor to the Curve 8520.
