BBM across multiple platforms soon

The wait for BlackBerry's most popular app, BlackBerry Messenger or BBM, to go cross-platform seems to be ending.

A couple of weeks ago, Alex Kinsella, a senior manager working on the software, tweeted that the BBM for iPhone had been submitted to the App Store. Earlier on Tuesday, Samsung Nigeria tweeted that the BBM app would be exclusive to Galaxy devices for three months starting this week.

But CrackBerry.com, the site providing news on BlackBerry, has just put an end to Samsung's claim.

BBM Communications Director at BlackBerry, Victoria Berry has posted: "The excitement around the upcoming BBM launch on iPhone and Android devices seems to know no bounds. Although I'm a big fan of this passion, I want to clarify that no one will have an exclusive on offering BBM. We'll be bringing the app to Android and iPhone users across the globe soon."

This new app, adapted for use across multiple platforms, will offer messaging and groups for iOS hardware running iOS 6 and above, and Android devices running version 4.0 (IceCream Sandwich) and above.

BBM at present has more than 60 million monthly active customers, with more than 51 million using it for an average of 90 minutes per day. BBM customers collectively send and receive more than 10 billion messages each day.
