Carmakers are showering discount on customers this monsoon as demand has
slumped further due to the slowdown, soaring
petrol prices and high interest rates on bank loans.
Leading carmaker Maruti Suzuki India Ltd is offering cash discount ranging from Rs 25,000-Rs 40,000 across models. While Zen Estilo comes at a discount of Rs 40,000, the offer on WagonR is Rs 30,000, Alto Rs 28,000 and Ritz Rs 25,000. In addition, Maruti car dealers are also offering loyalty and exchange bonus of up to Rs 20,000. Besides, corporate dis-count and some accessories have been throw in for free as part of the package to attract buyers.
Only Maruti's best-selling diesel models Swift and DZire do not have any offers due to their high demand. "There is a waiting period ever since the two cars were launched. We are pushing for other models through various offers and discount as sales have slowed down this month. We expect to continue with these offers," a Maruti dealer in East Delhi told mail Today. A senior Maruti official said that the discount would continue into August as petrol cars are not selling.
Maruti's arch rival Hyundai too is offering discount for its entry and mid-sized cars. Besides loyalty and exchange bonus of up to Rs 15,000 depending on mod-els, it is offering special discount of up to Rs 40,000 on i10, Rs 22,000 on its entry-level model Eon and Rs 20,000 for its mid-sized sedan Verna. In addition, corporate discount are being given on these models. Hyundai is also offering free insurance and a Rs 7,000 cash discount on its once best-selling model Santro.
Ford India is offering interest-free loans and a free third-year warranty. It also expects to come out with its monsoon dhamaka in August, in which it offers household items like refrigerators and washing machines. Volkswagen is ask-ing customers to pay only 20 per cent in advance and the remaining amount in 36 EMIs.
Honda also has offers on select models. "We are offering insur-ance at Rs 1 on middle grades of Honda City and the manual transmission of Brio," a Honda Cars India spokesperson said.
There are offers also in the luxury car segment. Luxury car dealers are desperate to boost sales. BMW and Audi dealers in New Delhi are offering easy and cheaper in-house finance besides 7-10 per cent discount on cars ranging between Rs 29.9 lakh and Rs 34.5 lakh. Mercedes-Benz dealers are trying to clear out old stock of the E-Class by offering a substantial discount on its mainstay saloon. You can get an opportunity to save upto Rs 7 lakh on this car.
