Cipla wins AIDS drug tender worth 2 billion rand from South Africa's health department

Cipla, the home-grown drugmaker, was awarded a drug tender worth 2 billion rand by South Africa's National Health Department.

Cipla is among 4 drug firms which have been awarded the tender.

The South African health department said on Wednesday that it has awarded a tender, worth 10 billion rand ($860 million), to four pharmaceutical companies to supply AIDS treatment drugs.

Of the other three firms, Aspen Pharmacare was awarded a 2.5 billion contract, US-based Mylan won a 2.8 billion share and unlisted South African-firm Sonke got a 3 billion stake in the tender.
