US auto maker Ford Motor Company began production of its global
Ford Fiesta at their manufacturing facility at Maraimalai Nagar near Chennai.
The city-based facility is the sixth plant for Ford to produce Fiesta model. Besides Chennai, Ford Fiesta is also produced in China, Germany, Spain, Mexico and Thailand, a company statement issued said.
"We are thrilled to see Ford's latest world-class premium sedan rolling off the Chennai assembly line, continuing India's emergence as a regional manufacturing hub for Ford. We are committed to grow our operations in Tamil Nadu," Ford India President and Managing Director Michael Boneham said.
Buying a car? Here are the best budget buys The company recently announced that it would invest $72 million (nearly Rs 325 crore) in expanding its diesel engine production capacity at the Chennai plant as part of increasing its capacity by 30 per cent in India within next one year.
The Chennai plant would produce the advanced 1.5L Ti-VCT petrol and Duratorq TDCi diesel engine for the all-new Fiesta.

Currently, Ford retails the premium SUV Endeavour, mid-size sedan Fiesta Classic and premium
