It is not just Samsung and HTC that are announcing upgrades in their flagship lineups. Gionee, the Chinese handset brand that has been aggressive in the Indian market, too, has announced its new ultra smartphone, the ELIFE S7 at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
Gionee has come up with some great phones in the past. Adding one more to its portfolio, the S7 doesn't compete in the race for the thinnest smartphone and has a waist line measuring 5.5 mm.
It adorns Gorilla Glass 3 panel on the front and the rear. It has been designed using aviation-level aluminum magnesium alloy. It has a 5.2-inch AMOLED display, which the company claims is 20 per cent more efficient than regular AMOLEDs.
It will be powered by the 1.7-Ghz octa-core MediaTek MT6752 processor and 2 GB of RAM. It will have Amigo OS 3.0 based on Android 5.0 Lollipop with OTA.
There will be a 13-MP rear camera with an 8-MP front facing selfie camera. With 16 GB internal storage, it packs in a 2700-mAh battery.
"We believe ELIFE S7 will take the future of slim smartphones to the next level. To make ever-slimmer phones, compromising on performance and function is pointless. Manufacturers should offer more features benefiting user experience other than just slimness," said William Lu, President of Gionee.
There isn't any word on the pricing yet but the Gionee S7 is scheduled to launch in India sometime in April this year.
