Google rolls out navigation for cyclists in 10 countries

Google Maps has brought cycling directions and navigation on smartphones in 10 countries - Australia, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK.

Google Maps has brought cycling directions and navigation on smartphones in 10 countries - Australia, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK.

Google Maps has also added turn-by-turn, voice-guided biking navigation. The cyclists in these countries can just mount the smartphone on the handlebars to see the turn-by-turn directions and navigation, or use speaker-mode to hear voice-guided directions.

Google Maps had earlier launched desktop version of these cycling direction in these countries.

Google in 2010 had added cycling directions to Google Maps in 2010 and today there are more than 330,000 miles of green biking lines in Google Maps. Dark green lines on the map show dedicated bike trails and paths with no motor vehicles while light green lines show streets with bike lanes and dashed green lines show other streets recommended for cycling.
