Google to enter laptop market with Chromebooks, plans June launch

The laptop computer from the internet giant will use its own OS rather than Windows. It will go on sale in seven countries from June 15, with India launch scheduled for year-end.

Google has announced its entry into the laptop market with Chromebooks, the laptop computer from the internet giant which will use its own operating system rather than Windows.

The notebook will go on sale from June 15 in seven countries and India will get to see it later this year.

With this launch, Google takes on Microsoft in the operating systems market. The Chromebooks' OS functionalities will be available only if it is connected to the internet and will use Google services like Docs and Gmail for the users.

Companies will be able to use Chromebooks at a monthly fee of $28 per month, along with which Google will also provide them software and hardware support.
