Hewlett-Packard rejigs board, 5 new directors on-board

Booz & Company's Shumeet Banerji will be joined by AXA Private Equity' Dominique Senequier, GE's Gary Reiner, eBay's Meg Whitman and Alcatel-Lucent's Patricia Russo.

Hewlett-Packard is all set to rejig its board with the entry of five new directors, including India-origin Shumeet Banerji, amid lingering uneasiness over the exit of its former chief Mark Hurd last year.

Four existing directors, who were closely involved in the decision to show Hurd the door, would not be standing for re-election at the company's annual general meeting in March.

With the new appointments, effective Friday, there would currently be a total of 17 members, HP said on Thursday.

Apart from Booz & Company's India-origin CEO Shumeet Banerji, other new entrants are AXA Private Equity CEO Dominique Senequier, GE's former Chief Information Officer Gary Reiner, eBay's former head Meg Whitman and Alcatel-Lucent's former CEO Patricia Russo.

"Incumbent directors Joel Hyatt, John Joyce, Robert Ryan and Lucille Salhany are not standing for re-election at the company's annual meeting of stockholders," HP said in a statement.

Interestingly, these four were involved in deciding on ousting Hurd, who made an unceremonious exit in August 2010 amid allegations of sexual harassment.

"The addition of these new directors will further diversify the outstanding talents and wide-ranging experience that our directors already bring to HP," the company's non-executive chairman Raymond J Lane said.

51-year-old Banerji, the new board member, is the chief of global management consulting firm Booz & Company. According to the statement, Banerji has focused on counselling government ministries and financial services institutions on the impact of changing demographics worldwide.

Based in London, he has a PhD from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management and passed MBA from Delhi University.
