Honda Motor is gearing up to launch its first diesel model
Amaze by next fiscal in India. According to R&D officials of the Japanese company, the car maker is also working on developing smaller diesel engines particularly for the Indian market.
Amaze is based on same platform which powers its existing small car
Brio , which was developed exclusively for the Asian markets. Amaze will be powered by a 1.5 litre engine.
Honda's entry-level sedan Amaze will qualify for the excise duty benefit, enjoyed by small cars in India and will take on Maruti Suzuki's Swift DZiRE, the segment leader.
Honda Amaze would also be available in petrol versions. Honda official says that the car maker is also exploring the possibility of launching a diesel SUV on Jazz platform which would be powered by the engine used in Amaze.
