The phone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor, which has eight cores.

HTC is the latest company to jump on the 'selfie' bandwagon. On Thursday, the company announced the Desire 820, a mid-range with 8-megapixel front camera. The Desire 820 is also one of the first Android phones to feature a 64-bit processor.

The phone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor, which has eight cores. Four of these cores run at 1.5GHz while the other four run at 1GHz. The Desire 820 has a 5.5-inch screen with 720P resolution, 2GB RAM, 16GB internal storage, support for microSD card, 13-megapixel rear camera, boom sound stereo speakers, 2600 mAh battery and Android 4.4.

In markets like India, HTC will likely introduce the dual-SIM variant of the device.

"Our new HTC Desire model gives entertainment lovers exactly what they are looking for, a powerful, fast, stylish smartphone that delivers their favourite content on a big screen at a competitive price," said Peter Chou, CEO of HTC Corporation. "With the HTC Desire 820, we've combined the most advanced technology with the best possible entertainment experience and bold, distinctive design to deliver a handset that is both desirable and affordable".

In terms of features and hardware, the Desire 820 looks like a good phone. But whether it succeeds in the market or not will depend on its price. HTC often prices its devices slightly higher compared to the price at which its competitors sell phone. If the Desire 820 too comes with a relatively higher price, it may face tough competition.
