Jet Airways and
IndiGo have pulled out inventory from the travel website
makemytrip.com to protest against the
'opaque fares' scheme the portal deployed on its website, according to media reports.
Many travel portals, such as yatra.com and makemytrip.com, have been offering 'opaque fares' which enables a customer to buy highly discounted tickets without knowing the carrier's name until he or she makes the full payment.
The airlines are at war with the portal over the scheme even as Makemytrip claimed that it had absolved itself from such practices, after the aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) disallowed airlines from participating in such schemes.
On March 28, DGCA had asked directed all airlines to immediately withdraw from a scheme under which travel portals offer discounted air tickets but do not reveal the name of the carrier till the payment is made by the customer.
IndiGo sent out an official statement on Tuesday saying it has withdrawn all content from makemytrip.com as "the arbitrary display of fares and opaque pricing is anti consumer and in violation of DGCA norms and directives."
Meanwhile, Jet Airways has drastically reduced its inventory on the site.
