Kingfisher's Chairman Vijay Mallya
's dream was to create an international airline that could compete with the best of the global carriers. He railed against the government for forcing carriers to have five years of operations before being allowed to fly abroad. His ambition to take Kingfisher to international shores is what eventually prompted him to buy Air Deccan, as they had qualified to fly abroad.

However, according to data already loaded of the Global Distribution System (GDS) for airline tickets it is apparent that Kingfisher is curtailing all but one of its international operations effective 25 March. The flight between Delhi and London Heathrow will continue to operate till April 10. It is also learnt that Kingfisher executives will disclose this fact to the Director General of Civil Aviation later on Tuesday.

One reason for these cancellations is believed to be the repossession by lessors of some of Kingfisher's Airbus A330-200 wide body aircraft. This is yet to be confirmed by the airline, but with lessors reclaiming planes by the dozen, it appears to be true.
