LG G2 launched in India, priced at Rs 41,500

The G2 from the Korean company is a unique product that for the first tome pushes all physical keys from the sides to the rear of the phone.

LG seems to be slowly realising the potential of the smartphone market in India and has launched a device just a couple of months after its global unveiling.

The G2 from the Korean company is a unique product that for the first time pushes all physical keys from the sides to the rear of the phone.

This Rear Key concept is an attempt to make it easier for users to handle a large screen phone. LG says moving the main buttons to the back of the phone gives users more control as this is where the index fingers naturally rest.

The G2 further incorporates a 5.2-inch Full HD display with IPS technology for superior graphics and accurate colour. There is also a Graphic RAM (GRAM) technology that claims to reduce the display's energy use by up to 26 per cent and increases overall usage time on the device by roughly 10 per cent.

Running Android v4.2, the G2 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core 2.24GHz chipset with 2GB RAM. The phone has a 13MP rear camera with optical image stabilisation and a 2.1 MP front camera. With 16 GB onboard storage, it has got a 3000 mAh battery onboard.

The 16GB variant is priced at a competitive Rs 41,500 while the 32GB variant will be available for Rs 44,500*.

There are some interesting user-interface features like automatic call answer when the phone is raised to the ear. The G2 also allows information embedded in text messages to be selected and easily saved in a memo or calendar and searched on a map or the internet.

QuickRemote allows the G2 to be used to remotely control home entertainment devices and learn from conventional remotes to be customised to operate multiple devices with flexible layouts and keys.

The G2 also has a Guest Mode that protects the device owner's privacy by displaying only pre-selected apps when guests access the phone with a secondary unlock pattern.

(*An earlier version of the story had incorrectly mentioned the price of the 32GB variant as Rs 43,500. It has now been corrected to Rs 44,500.)
