Maruti Suzuki India plans to launch a new version of Swift in August this year in 1.2-litre petrol and 1.3-litre diesel variants. The compnay is understood to have stopped the production of its best-selling premium hatchback Swift.
Maruti currently sells close to 5,000 Swifts every month and the car, when launched in 2005. Sources said that the new Swift will also be more expensive than the existing version, which is available between Rs 4.09 lakh and Rs 5.56 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
TAKE A LOOK: Most talked-about cars in the market Maruti may also offer a four-speed automatic transmission option in the petrol version, besides the regular five-speed manual version. Maruti has codenamed the new Swift as YP8. Its trial runs are on at the Manesar plant.
Meanwhile, dealers have started accepting bookings for the new Swift. The firm had first introduced the Swift in May 2005 and the model has witnessed a cumulative sales of over six lakh units so far.
