Mumbai achieves close to 100 per cent digitisation

Mumbai achieves close to 100 per cent digitisation

A review of progress in the four cities found that Mumbai had achieved almost 100 per cent digitisation, on both the cable and DTH front.

Direct-to-home (DTH) and multi-system (cable TV) operators are going all out to seed television set-top boxes in Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi and Kolkata.

The government's deadline for digitisation in the four metros will expire on October 31, 2012.

A review of progress in the four cities found that Mumbai had achieved almost 100 per cent digitisation, on both the cable and DTH front.

Overall, the four metros have achieved 81 per cent cable TV digitisation. This number goes up to 87 percent when clubbed with DTH services.

An official statement by the ministry indicates that 2.7 million DTH set-top boxes have been installed across the four metros so far. Data provided by multi-system operators (MSOs), suggests that around 45,000 set-top boxes are being installed each day in the four metros.
