Japanese
auto maker Nissan on Tuesday announced that the company's new premium compact sports utility vehicle (SUV) Terrano will go on sale in October across India and will be priced below Rs 10 lakh.
The bookings for Terrano will commence on September 1 and the SUV would compete with Ford EcoSport, Mahindra Quanto and Scorpio and Duster.
Nissan India Operations president Kenichiro Yomura said, "Terrano marks our entry into the compact SUV segment, which is one of the fastest growing segments in the Indian market today."
"It has been developed specifically for the Indian market and will play a key role in boosting our sales volume in India, marking the company's entry into the expanding compact SUV segment," he added.
Terrano will be the fourth vehicle to be produced locally in Nissan's Oragadam plant in Tamil Nadu alongside Micra, Sunny and Evalia.
According to Nissan, the Terrano follows the same design language as other renowned SUV's from the its stable like the Pathfinder and Patrol.
"We are confident that Terrano will appeal both to existing real SUV lovers and consumers looking to graduate to SUVs," said Yomura.
Nissan has an alliance with
French auto major Renault and has based the Terrano on its popular Duster SUV which was launched in India in July 2012 and has been a runaway hit.
However, the Terrano has a distinct front grille, rear tail lamps and premium interiors as compared to the Duster.
