Nokia returns to metal with Lumia 925

Nokia returns to metal with Lumia 925

The new Lumia fuses together a polycarbonate body with a metal frame in an 8.5 mm form factor.

Nokia on Tuesday announced a new metallic smartphone, the Lumia 925, at an event in London. This new Lumia fuses together a polycarbonate body with a metal frame in an 8.5mm form factor. This will make it the slimmest PureView phone from Nokia till date and will feature an 8.7MP camera with dual LED flash, optical image stabilisation and auto focus. Another highlight will be the Nokia Smart Camera mode that can take ten shots at once, allowing further edit with tools like Best Shot, Action Shot and Motion Focus.

The Lumia 925 will have a 4.5-inch AMOLED display with 1280x786p resolution protected by Gorilla 2 glass. Running Windows Phone 8, it will be powered by a 1.5Ghz dual-core Snapdragon processor with 1GB RAM. The smartphone will come with 16GB onboard memory with access to 7GB free storage on SkyDrive cloud storage. Weighing 139 grams, it packs in a 2000 mAh battery. Nokia has also done away with built-in wireless charging by announcing add-on covers supporting wireless charging that can be clipped to the Lumia 925.

The smartphone will go on sale in select countries in June at an expected price of 469 euros, excluding taxes and subsidies.

"We keep innovating… We're advancing experiences on the Nokia Lumia portfolio whether that means great new benefits for an existing Lumia owner, or bringing new showcase devices like the Nokia Lumia 925," said Jo Harlow, executive vice-president of Nokia Smart Devices at the event.

Nokia has also announced that the imaging software on the Lumia 925 will be available to the existing Lumia smartphones on Windows Phone 8 through a firmware update called Nokia Lumia Amber set to roll out this summer.

Just four days ago, Nokia had announced a very similar Lumia 928 with a 4.5-inch AMOLED display with 1280x786p resolution. That camera too had 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, 1GB RAM, Windows Phone 8, 2000 mAh battery and 8.7MP PureView auto-focus camera. The Lumia 928 will come with 32GB onboard storage and at the moment will be available in the US market only.
