Ratul Puri, Chairman of Hindustan Powerprojects Private Ltd., sees China-style development in India in the years ahead. "It is the strongest mandate in recent times. That would allow the government to take the right decisions," he said.
China focused on infrastructure first, followed by manufacturing and then services. Puri thinks India will change in the next 10 years by following a similar model.
"Infrastructure enables manufacturing. Besides manufacturing jobs, construction can be a massive employer. Build up of infrastructure will also drive other developments. Because of the Agra Expressway, property prices in Agra have shot up in the last three years," Puri said.
Employment in infrastructure and manufacturing can potentially lift millions out of poverty and improve their quality of life. "India needs a growth of 7-8 per cent for the next few years to alter the quality of life of its people," Puri said.
