RBI cautions public against fraudulent app to check bank account balance

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Saturday warned the general public that it has not developed any software application allowing a person to check balances in various bank accounts.

In a statement, the central bank said that it has come to its notice that a software application "is doing rounds on WhatsApp purportedly to facilitate checking of balance in customers' bank accounts.

"The Reserve Bank wishes to clarify that it has not developed any such application. Members of public are, therefore, advised to use the application, if at all, at their own risk," RBI said.
