Bag it or junk it: A good alternative for small offices

For long, small businesses were recommended to buy laser printers over messier inkjet ones. But the costs involved in installing and maintaining a coloured laser printer is much higher. HP has now come up with a paper-wide technology for inkjet printers with speedy performance at affordable costs. The printer now has a stationary ink-head that spans the width of the page. This ensures the page moves quietly and faster, but produces better prints.

We tested the HP OfficeJet X415 DW, an easy-to-install desktop printer. It has two paper handling trays, of which, the sheet input tray can hold up to 500 sheets, whereas the multipurpose tray has a capacity of 50. The output tray can hold up to 300 pages. There is a 2-inch monochrome display with controls for basic functions.

The printer performs like a welloiled machine. It takes a couple of minutes to warm up, but once done it can spew out hundreds of prints without any lag. We thought HP's claims of professional quality colour prints at twice the speed and half the cost per page were not unsubtantiated. The printer managed around 35 pages per minute on the quality mode and around 52 pages per minute on the draft mode. The colour prints were also impressive.
