The rupee touched a 10-week high of 49.95 against the dollar on the Interbank Foreign Exchange market in early trade on Tuesday on continued foreign fund inflows.
Dealers said consistent dollar inflows and euro's gains against the US currency overseas mainly supported the rupee.
The rupee rose by 15 paise to 49.95 a dollar in early trade against the previous close of 50.10/11 a dollar.
However, in late morning trade the rupee pared some of its gains and was trading up by 9 paise at 50.01 per dollar.
The rupee had gained 21 paise to close at two-and-a-half month high of Rs 50.10/11 against the US dollar.
