SC cancels 122 2G licences issued by A Raja

The apex court, however, ruled out any probe on Home Minister P Chidambaram for his alleged role in the spectrum scam, upholding CBI's argument that the trial court decide in the matter.

The Supreme Court on Thursday cancelled all 122 licences granted to telecom companies during the tenure of former telecom minister A. Raja.

The apex court, however, ruled out any probe on Home Minister P Chidambaram for his alleged role in the spectrum scam.

In a landmark judgement, the Supreme Court has ordered that licences of all 11 telecom companies, which were granted the 2G spectrum licences under Raja, be revoked. Three of these eleven companies have also been asked to pay a fine of Rs 4 crore each.

On Janata Party leader Subramanian Swamy's plea that P Chidambaram be probed for his involvement in the scam, the apex court upheld the Central Bureau of Investigation's argument that the trial court decide in the matter.
