The launch of Nokia's new N8 created a buzz, not because it was the greatest smart to come out in 2010, but because everyone seemed to have an opinion on it.
Wonderful, said some, of the smartphone that runs on the new Symbian ^3 operating system. Rot, said its detractors. G&G itself found the mobile phone a very good machine. But the non-availability of handset in the market in recent days seemed to indicate that Nokia had withdrawn the phone from production due to buyer reluctance.
Indeed, rumours were rife that the N8 had been a disaster. However, a report of Finnish research firm Inderes clearly says that Nokia managed to ship close to four million N8 handsets till date. The Inderes report says that the phone has been a success in India, Finland, United Arab Emirates and Malaysia.
Inderes has also declared that the N8 constituted a close competition to the Apple iPhone 4 and the Samsung Galaxy S, by far the best smartphones of the year. Launched in the third quarter of 2010 abroad and in the fourth quarter in India, the N8 is the first smartphone to operate on the upgraded Symbian 3 OS.
