Wipro projects flat IT growth in second quarter

The IT bellwether reports a consolidated net profit of Rs 1,580.20 crore for the April-June quarter, while projecting a flat growth in second quarter.

Country's third largest software company Wipro Ltd on Tuesday projected $1.54 billion revenue from its global IT services for the second quarter (July-September) of this fiscal (2012-13), indicating a flat sequential growth from first quarter (April-June).

Wipro posted an 18.37 per cent increase in consolidated net profit at Rs 1,580.20 crore for the first quarter ended June 30, 2012.

In a regulatory filing, the IT bellwether said revenue from its flagship IT services business would be in the range of $1,520-1,550 million, which will be marginally higher (1.3 per cent) from $1,496 million ($1.5 billion) posted in Q1 of this fiscal (FY2013) under the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).

From the mag: Wipro makes a comeback

Unlike its peer Infosys Ltd, Wipro does not give annual revenue guidance.

Wipro Chairman Azim Premji said in a statement, "In today's complex business environment, global corporations are increasingly investing in transformational technology initiatives to improve competitiveness. We see this shift as an opportunity for us to lead this change and help customers differentiate in this fast evolving market".

"IT Services revenue in dollar terms was impacted by $25 million of cross currency impact and was $1,515 million, a year-on-year increase of eight per cent," it said.

"We have seen high levels of volatility in currencies globally. We have improved profitability, while continuing to invest for growth," Wipro Executive Director and Chief Financial Officer Suresh Senapaty said.
