Xiaomi to sell 40,000 Redmi 1S units on Sept 2 via Flipkart

Xiaomi to sell 40,000 Redmi 1S units on Sept 2 via Flipkart

The Redmi 1S is expected to be popular as it costs just Rs 5,999.

Xiaomi has been criticised for the lack of units of the Mi 3 in India. In fact, now it seems that it has run out of units of the Mi 3 as it has suspended the sale of the phone in India. On Tuesday, when the company launched the Redmi 1S in India, its VP for global operations, Hugo Barra, told IndiaToday.in that the number would be much higher than the 20,000 unit flash sale Xiaomi employed for the Mi 3 . On Thursday, the company has revealed that on September 2, when the phone goes on sale, it will offer 40,000 units of the phone.

The Redmi 1S is expected to be even more popular as it costs just Rs 5,999. Xiaomi says that already 100,000 people have pre-registered for the flash sale on September 2 on Flipkart. The phone essentially offers the hardware specifications of the Google Nexus 4 for just Rs 5,999.

Flipkart first subscribers will also get the opportunity to buy the phone on September 1, a day before the flash sale.

It has a 4.7-inch 720p IPS screen, a 1.6GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal memory, a microSD card slot, dual-SIM functionality and a 2,000mAh battery. On the back, it also has a 8-megapixel camera and on the front there is a 1.6-megapixel front camera. It runs on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean running under a layer of MiUI 5. On the Redmi 1S, there is also a 'light' mode, which provides a grid of tiles offering a simplified feature phone like experience.

40,000 units is a significant bump from 20,000 units of the Mi 3, but this could also be too little considering the phone is very affordable. That said, Xiaomi believes that it can cope with the demand of the Redmi 1S is a much better way. "Our capacity for the RedMi is very high. We can respond to RedMi demand a lot faster, " said Hugo Barra in an interview to IndiaToday.in .
