MARUTI SUZUKI ECO CHARGE (3.4 lakh upwards)

A concept brought in by the most reliable car company in our country: Maruti Suzuki. After decades of providing our drivers with their vehicles, Maruti has turned green. The Eco Charge is a concept hybrid that uses a 1196 cc petrol engine combined with a 5KW electric motor. Together they give the users better mileage and emit less carbon. It can be fully charged in seven hours and can achieve top speed of 100 kmph.

TOYOTA PRIUS Z4 (28.4 lakh)

The Prius is the among the first green cars around the world. Toyota de-signed this car to produce low emissions at very high fuel efficiency.Prius has an intelligent hybrid system that makes use of both a 1.8 litrepetrol engine and an electric motor. Together they give better mileageand decrease production of harmful gases. The car has three driving modes-Power, Eco and EV modes-that the driver can choose from. It has a new heads up display, automatic A/C, eco drive monitor and electronic shift lever.

CHEVROLET BEAT EV ELECTRIC

Beat has become a bestseller for Chevrolet and has en-abled the company to capture a huge market share inthe hatchback segment. Now, going by reports, an elec-tric version will be showcased in the coming month. It will have an all elec-tric engine that will power the car up. The exterior and interiors will remain the same as the regular petrol one. But, it will atleast not emit as muchC02 as the current one does.

HYUNDAI i10 ELECTRIC

Showcased at the Auto Expo in New Delhi last year, this car is the one to look out for. Hyundai must have high hopes of this model. It comes as an electric variation of one of its bestsellers-the i10. With or without Shah Rukh Khan endorsing this car, people are bound to love the hatchback. The car will have 16 kWh Li-ion rechargeable battery, which is being co-developed with another Korean major, LG. As for the motor, this car is going to carry a 65 BHP electric one. On a fullcharge it should be able to cover 150 km. The news is, it will come some time mid-year.

TATA NANO ELECTRIC

Tata showcased the green version of the world's least expensive car at the Geneva auto show last month. The car is going to have the same look and chassis, but with an electric engine modification. The electric drive train will give this car battery a life of 160 km. It can do nought to 60 kmph in 10 seconds. If it does not catch fire or worse, explode, this could very well be the car that can replace all autos on road.

REVA NXG

Reva is the first all-electric Indian car. It will soon have a sibling in the NXG which will be launnched in 2013, a much awaited model that has modern exteriors hiding a good eco-friendly electrical motor inside.The government has given the Reva special subsidies which reduce the cost of the car. This could very well be the electric car that will have the lowest price tag. It will have a range of 200 km on a full charge and a maximum speed of 130 kmph.
