Airtel and Jio are the biggest telecom operators in the country. Both the brands keep offering cheaper plans and benefits to take an edge over the other. As far as broadband services are concerned, both the operators offer Fiber connection at different price points. The basic plan from Jio Fiber starts at Rs 399, while for Airtel, it begins at Rs 499. These unlimited monthly plans offer 30Mbps and 40Mbps speeds, respectively.
These entry-level plans can work for a casual user, but someone who requires a very high-speed internet connection should pick a different plan. Airtel and Jio both offer 300Mbps plans with plenty of benefits, and we are here to compare just that. To help you choose the right plan.
The 300Mbps plan from both Airtel Xstream Fiber and Jio Fiber cost Rs 1499 monthly. These plans offer unlimited data and local/STD calling. In addition to that, both operators provide free subscriptions to multiple OTT platforms and some other apps.
The Jio Fiber packs a total of 15 free apps that include Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+Hotstar VIP, SonyLIV, ZEE5, Voot Select, Voot Kids, Sun NXT, Altbalaji, Hoichoi, ShemarooMe, Lionsgate Play, Discovery+, Eros Now, JioCinema and Jio Music.
On the other hand, Airtel Xstream only has four apps on offer, including Amazon Prime, Disney+Hotstar, Airtel Xstream and Wynk Music. The Airtel Xstream app separately offers access to OTT platforms like Voot Basic, Eros Now, Hungama Play, Shemaroo Me, and Ultra. Airtel also bundles Xstream DTH box with one month HD pack with this plan.
While both operators offer unlimited data and calling, Jio has a clear edge in terms of providing additional free apps. And that alone could be a strong reason for some folks to pick the Jio Fiber plan.
In case the 300Mbps plan doesn't suffice your requirements. Both Jio and Airtel have 1Gbps high-speed plans on offer. Like the aforementioned offering, even this plan is priced similarly. The 1Gbps plan for both Airtel Xstream Fiber and Jio Fiber will cost you Rs 3999.
These are unlimited plans with up to 1Gbps of download and upload speeds. Besides this, you get unlimited calling support plus OTT subscriptions, the same as the 300Mbps plan.
Jio does not essentially charge anything for getting a new connection. According to the new Jio Fiber Plan, users are entitled to get a Jio-Fiber no condition 30-days free trial. This trial offers up to 150Mbps, unlimited voice calling, a 4K set-top box and a subscription to 10 OTT apps at no extra cost. If the user is not happy with the service, it will be discontinued zero questions asked.
Users can avail of this free trial by two methods. They can choose to pay an amount of Rs 2500 security deposit or Rs 1500 to get the connection. While the first option bundles 10 OTT apps and a 4K set-top box, the other option brings no extra benefits. The security deposit is refundable in case the user chooses to quit the service.
Although the Airtel website doesn't mention any installation chargers, users must pay an installation charge of Rs 1000. However, Airtel says it will waive the installation charges on long-term subscriptions (3/6/12 months). Moreover, users that pick half-yearly months or annual plans are eligible for additional discounts of 7.5 per cent and 15 per cent, respectively.
