Toshiba India Private Ltd has launched a 29-inch
LED TV exclusively for the Indian market. A popular screen size in traditional televisions, the 29-inch is rare in flat panels.
However, with a price of Rs 22,990, Toshiba seems to be eyeing buyers who would otherwise have bought a much costlier 32-inch model. Their new models offer similar specifications, though in a slightly smaller screen size.
In a release, Country Head Sanjay Warke said the company's aim is to become "the number 1 LED TV player in India". Last year, Toshiba announced that it is targeting five-fold growth for 2014/15, from around Rs 1,000 crore in 2012/13.
Pranab Mohanty, Vice-President of Sales and Marketing, said market studies had shown that people in smaller cities and towns too want to upgrade from
CRTs and LCD TVs, but "without having to burn a hole in their pockets". The 29-inch model is the most popular in these segments and carries some sentimental value for buyers, said the release.
Priced at Rs 22,990 and Rs 23,990, the 29PB200 and 29PU200 models will be part of Toshiba's "Thinking LED" range. The FullHD models will have an auto signal booster and a Power Bass Booster for better sound.
