Indian consumers can't get enough of aggressively priced phones. On Thursday, Micromax and Amazon sold the entire stock- 10,000 units-of Yu Yureka smartphones in 3 seconds. The sale started at 2 pm and the phones were gone in a blink of an eye.
"The third sale of Yureka has received yet another overwhelming response and sold off 10,000 units today in just 3 seconds. Yu-a brand created by Micromax-has been selling Yureka through its exclusive online partner Amazon.in, and has received a phenomenal response from the users in the first two flash sales in January as well," said a Yu spokesperson.
The company added that it was hard at work to ramp up the supply of the phone. It hinted that in the next sale, which will happen on February 5, it may offer around 20,000 units of the Yureka. Before they can buy the phone, users will have to register for it. Registrations for the next sale will start after 5 pm on Thursday.
The appeal of the Yureka phone, just like Xiaomi phones that also sell out within seconds, is in its aggressive price. The phone is sold for Rs 8,999 even though it comes with hardware that is usually found in high-end phones.
The Yu Yureka has a 5.5-inch screen with 720p resolution. It is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor. It has 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage. The phone uses Cyanogen 11 OS, which is based on Android KitKat. It has a 13-megapixel rear camera and 5-megapixel front camera.
