With the launch of the new iPhones, the older generations get a price cut. As Apple has announced the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus late last night, the prices of the unlocked iPhone 6 and 6 Plus have also dropped in the international market. The iPhone 6 16GB will be available for $549 and the 64GB variant for $649. The iPhone 6Plus 16GB's new price is $649 and $749 for the 64GB variant.
But, this doesn't seem to bring any changes in the pricing of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus models in India as they are not retailing at the MRP but at a much lower price.
Currently, the iPhone 6 16 GB variant is retailing between Rs 43,000 to Rs 45,000, whereas the 64GB can be purchased for anywhere between Rs 53,000 to Rs 55,000. The revised MRP of the iPhone owning to the fluctuating currency exchange rate is Rs 56,000 for 16GB iPhone 6 and Rs 65,000 for 64GB iPhone 6.
iPhone 6 Plus 16 GB is available anywhere between Rs 53,000 to Rs 55,000 whereas the MRP is Rs 65,000. The 64 GB storage variant is priced at around Rs 60,000, while the MRP on the box is Rs 74,000.
Manish Khatri, of Mahesh Telecom, states, "This iPhones are already selling at a low price compared to the MRP in general trade. And looking at the past few years, there won't be much impact on the pricing of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus initially. The MRP may get reduced or the company my launch a buyback scheme."
The effective prices at which the iPhones are selling are likely to continue to remain the same. And there won't be any significant boost in the sales if there isn't any further price drop. At the maximum, in terms of schemes, the price can only come down by another grand or two.
"Currently, in Mumbai, we are currently sourcing the stock from other channels as the authorised distributor is not billing the iPhone since last two months. We have to buy phones either from online or get the stocks from other states," says a shopkeeper based out of Heera Panna market in Mumbai, on the condition of anonymity.
There is no update on the price drop of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus from Apple at the time of filing this story (12:00 am).
