LG unveils G Flex Android smartphone

LG unveils G Flex Android smartphone

The smartphone is expected to be priced between Rs 60,000 and Rs 65,000. It will go on sale in February 2014.

LG Electronics unveiled its first curved smartphone, the G Flex, in India on Wednesday. The smartphone, unveiled in New Delhi, is expected to be priced between Rs 60,000 and Rs 65,000. It will go on sale in February 2014.

The device has a six-inch HD display (720p resolution), and LG says it is the world's largest Plastic OLED (POLED) display, which is ultra-thin, ultra-light and flexible. The reasoning behind the vertical curved design is that it reduces the distance between the speaker's mouth and the microphone when the device is held against the ear. It also fits more comfortably in one's back pocket.

The LG G Flex runs Android 4.2, is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor at 2.26 GHz and is paired with 2GB of RAM. The power key is on the back. It has 32GB of internal storage, a 3,500mAh battery, and no micro SD card slot. It has a 13 MP rear camera, 1080p video capture, and a 2.1 MP front-facing camera. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS/AGPS, NFC and 3G.

LG India Managing Director Soon Kwon says: "India is a strategic market for LG, and we are the first company to launch the curved series in the market. The unique and immersive curved design will provide consumers with an ultimate viewing experience."

Along with the G Flex, the company also showcased the 55-inch curved OLED TV that was first unveiled at CES 2013 in Las Vegas in the United States. The Curved OLED is priced at Rs 9,99,000.
