Nokia Store crosses 2 billion downloads in India

Nokia Store crosses 2 billion downloads in India

Interestingly, half of these downloads are on the S40 and Asha platforms launched in the last year.

Powered by the increasing popularity of its Asha series smart feature phones, the Nokia Store has crossed two billion downloads in India.

Interestingly, half of these downloads are on the S40 and Asha platforms launched in the last year. Globally, the Nokia Store is available in over 200 countries and has achieved well over 10 billion cumulative downloads.

In the India store, action games have emerged as the top downloaded category. Indiagames Ltd is the top publisher in the country, followed by Reliance Games and Rendered Ideas Softgame Pvt Ltd. Over 168 Indian developers have crossed the one million downloads mark on the store, with three of them going on to achieve 100 million downloads.

Speaking to Business Today, Sari Harju, Director, Mobile Phones, Nokia India, said the company has been trying to lower the barrier for access to the internet as well as apps and this strategy has started working in the Indian market.

"Now, we have tied up with leading operators to allow people to download apps without keying in credit card information," she added.

Sangeeta Bavi, Head - Developer Outreach, Nokia India, said operator billing was brining one-touch purchases to even those who don't have credit cards.

"This is also a huge monetisation enabler for developers who are so far dependent primarily on advertisement revenues in India," she added.

The Nokia Store has over 148,000 content items available for Series 40 devices and see an average of nearly 15 million downloads daily.
