
Sony on Wednesday announced the launch dates its first twotablet models, Sony Tablet S and Sony Tablet P, stake a presence in the market dominated by Apple's iPad . Available in Europe fromthe end of September 2011, Sony Tablet S has a 23.8cm (9.4") touchscreendisplay and is powered by NVIDIA Tegra2 mobile processor. It weighs 598g (approx.) (Wi-Fi version), and a Wi-Fi/3Gversion of Tablet S will be available from November 2011.
The other model Sony Tablet P would also be available fromNovember. Weighing 372g (approx.), "Sony Tablet" P features NIVIDIATegra 2 mobile processor and offers connectivity via Wi-Fi and 3G mobilenetworks. Dual 13.9 cm (5.5") touchscreen displays can be folded toachieve dimensions of just 79x180x26mm (approx.) to fit in a pocket.
Wi-Fi only models are equipped with Android 3.1 and Wi-Fi/3Gmodels are equipped with Android 3.2. Both Sony tablet models feature front and rear facing camerasfor still and video image capture.Reports said that the single-screen S tablet costs $488 and$599, the same as iPad.
