Twitter has paused its new Blue subscription, a day after its roll out as users were seen abusing it to impersonate brands and famous people, CNBC reported.

Twitter's $7.99/month service that enabled users to pay for a verification check mark was launched almost two weeks after the world's richest man Elon Musk took over the company.

As of Friday, the iPhone app no longer shows an option to sign up for Twitter Blue, CNBC added.

Shortly after the roll out, fake 'verified' accounts emerged causing chaos on the social media platform. However, the impersonating accounts were suspended within a couple of hours.

A verified blue tick account of former U.S president Donald Trump emerged making users believe that the Republican has made a comeback.

Impersonating accounts of Tesla, Twitter and pharma company Eli & Lily also emerged shortly before getting suspended.

On Friday, Twitter re-launched its 'official' badge which was discontinued a day before, shortly after its launch with Blue. Now, verified accounts of big companies like Apple and Loreal have the 'official' badge underneath their usernames.
