Xiaomi has been doing a decent job with rolling out OS updates this year. The Redmi K20 Pro was among the first few phones in the world to get the Android 10 update and it later received the MIUI 11 update that introduced more features to the device. Later, Xiaomi rolled it out for the Redmi K20 but the Android 10 update has largely been limited to the flagship devices from the company. However, in a rare event, Xiaomi may start updating its most affordable Redmi 8 series phone before the other models.
A recent Geekbench listing suggests that the Redmi 8A is soon getting the Android 10 update. The listing reveals that the Chinese variant of the Redmi 8A is undergoing testing for the Android 10 build and if everything goes alright, the Redmi 8A could soon start getting the stable release of Android 10 across all units. Do note that the listing specifically mentions that the Android 10 update is only meant for the Chinese variant of the device.
Xiaomi launched two variants of the Redmi 8A in different markets. The phone first launched in India as Xiaomi's entry-level smartphone for the market, limited to 3GB RAM and a Snapdragon 439 chipset. However, the Chinese variant of the Redmi 8A launched with 4GB RAM on board and the Geekbench listing reveals that the Android 10 test build is meant for the variant with 4GB RAM.
Similar to most of Xiaomi's phones, the Redmi 8A will get the Android 10 update based on MIUI 11. MIUI 11 is Xiaomi's latest skin that brings in some new features to all MIUI running devices. As standard, MIUI 11 offers a dark mode UI along with gesture-based navigation system as well as cleaner interface.
In India, the Redmi 8A starts from as low as Rs 6,499 and sits above the Redmi Go as Xiaomi's second most affordable smartphone. The phone gets a modern design seen in more premium Xiaomi phones and it flaunts a matte plastic finish. There's a 12-megapixel main camera at the back while a 5000mAh battery promises a battery life of up to 2 days on a single charge. The phone supports 18W fast charging. It even Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection.
