Moto X outperforms others on top-notch hardware, right pricing

Motorola Moto X

Motorola is back with a bang. First it shook the "sub-Rs 15,000" market with Moto G and now it is eyeing the "sub-Rs 25,000" segment with Moto X . But has it succeeded? A quick look at the newly launched Moto X.

Design: Moto X beautifully crafted and its touch and feel is premium. The 4.7-inch OLED display comes with a display resolution of 1280x720p. The screen produces vivid colours, deep blacks and displays crisp text. It offers wide-range angles too. Motorola has added curved edges that makes it feel compact. A nano-SIM slot is placed on the side but it doesn't support expandable memory. I feel the design, look and feel is much better than the Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 and even the Nexus 4.

Touchless Controls: Moto X's biggest highlight is its touchless control. It glows as soon as you pick up the phone. The notification appears on the lock screen which can be accessed by holding the icon and swipe to dismiss it. I am not a big fan of voice-assistance software such as Siri and S-Voice as they aren't optimised for Indian English accents. But using it here was really great. Setting up requires only a few minutes. I just had to say 'OK Google Now' thrice to get it going. Just by saying 'Ok, Google Now' the voice assistance gets activated, waiting for the next command. I tried doing a lot many things like browsing the web, launching apps, dialling a call, asking for directions and much more with the voice command and it worked brilliantly, without failing even once. It is hard to believe that it gets everything right at once. All this is powered by the dual co-processors, of which one is always on listening mode, while the second one keeps a track on the movements. When the phone is not in use, the core processor is dormant while these two co-processors continue to work, without taking a toll on the battery.

Processing Power: While the world is going mad about the number of cores, Motorola isn't  a part of this race. The Moto X is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro SoC that packs in two Krait 200 cores running at 1.7GHz each. This is slightly old as the Moto X was announced back in August 2013 and is coming to India now. There is an Adreno 320 GPU onboard. Running on Android 4.4.2, it is paired with 2GB of RAM, which manages to offer great performance. Even if it isn't powered by a quad-core or Octa-core processor, I don't have any complaints about the performance.

Camera: The Moto X has got a 10MP rear camera and a 2MP front-facing camera. Other than launching the camera by touching the camera app, one can launch it by flicking the wrist too. The camera UI is neat and the phone does capture quality images when captured in the right light. When used indoors, there was visible noise.
